Trollstigen, Norway
Trollstigen was opened on 31 July 1936 by King Haakon VII. The road took eight years to build. Even today, the road is a good example of the art of engineering and construction. Trollstigen has a steep incline of 9 percent and consists of 11 hairpin bends up a steep mountainside. Encircling the road are lofty mountains. Names such as Kongen (the King), Dronningen (the Queen) and Bispen (the Bishop) confirm their majesty.
Due to the size of the hairpins Vehicles more than 12.4 metres long are not allowed on Trollstigen, as they are likely to get stuck.
