The architect Nicholas Grimshaw who was designed the project and the engineering firm Anthony Hunt and Associate with Davis Langdon carried out the project. The domes are made out of hundreds of hexagons plus a few pentagons that interconnect the whole construction together. It took around 2½ years to construct and opened to the public on 17 March 2001.

The area is a dramatic global garden housed in tropical biomes nestles in a crater of 30 football pitches size. The attraction includes the world’s largest greenhouse and is considered one of the UK’s top Landmark Millennium projects created to tell the fascinating story of man’s relationships with plants.
